More than 100 young Europeans will join the EUSTORY Next Generation Summit 2017 »re:member Europe«!
In October 2017, more than 100 young Europeans from 27 countries will come to Berlin and discuss their shared European history, present and future in one of six parallel workshops. Together with experts from the fields of academia, journalism, education and arts they will explore, analyse, discuss and stage different historical topics and their relevance for a changing Europe today. They present their results in a public closing event on October 9 at the cultural centre RADIALSYSTEM V in Berlin.
The House of European History in Brussels is a place to debate, question and reflect on Europe’s history. It was initiated by the European Parliament and opened its doors in May 2017. It aims at creating a reservoir of European memory in order to understand the shared past and diverse experiences of European people.
Kultura Liberalna is a centrist, liberal media organisation formed around the leading Polish online weekly, featuring articles, commentary and debate. Kultura Liberalna’s Public Debate Observatory is a research centre which purpose is to collect and analyse cases of radicalisation in the public debate.
MEMORIAL is an international NGO operating in the field of history and human rights. It was founded in 1989 within the movement of perestroika and focuses on recording and publicising the Soviet Union’s totalitarian past as well as monitoring human rights in Russia and other post-Soviet states. Since 1999, MEMORIAL hosts a Russian history competition within the EUSTORY network.
The Marc Sinan Company produces musical projects linking different media, cultures and genres. Its concert performances have been honoured with several awards and the ensemble is a familiar face at prestigious venues and festivals on the international stage. Marc Sinan himself is an award-winning composer and guitar player with roots in Germany, Turkey and Armenia.
Vajswerk is an artistic ensemble from Berlin. In a dialogue between scholarship and art, it forms ensembles to conduct biographical research and present it on stage. In a working process lasting several months, they produce theatrical presentations incorporating multiple perspectives, illuminating historical and political contexts.
From October 6-10, 2017 the EUSTORY Next Generation Summit 2017 »re:member Europe« will bring together more than 100 young Europeans in the cultural centre Radialsystem V in Berlin to discuss their shared European history, present and future. The participants will work on different European topics in six parallel workshops organised in cooperation with partners from the fields of academia, arts, politics, media and education.
All interested prize winners and alumni from the history competitions organised in the EUSTORY network aged between 16 and 25 years are invited to apply for the EUSTORY Next Generation Summit 2017 in Berlin.
In cooperation with the workshop partners, the Summit team selected the best fitting candidates. Not only the prize category and language proficiency were important, personality and motivation counted just as much!
Read the Summit brochure carefully and be aware that you need about 4-5 weeks preparation time in the run-up to the Summit. If you are less than 18 years at the time of the event, please print the “Declaration of Consent for the Participation of Minors” enclosed at the end the brochure and ask your parents to complete and sign it. You will need to upload a scan of the signed document during the application process online. Visit www.historycampus.org/summit2017 and click on the “Apply”-button (application starts from May 31). Carefully fill in the application form. Since you will be required to provide some detailed information and write longer texts on your motivation, make sure you allow enough time for the application process. Choose as many workshops of interest as possible and keep in mind that you will attend your workshop during the whole time of the event. In the end you will only participate in one of the workshops though, since they will take place simultaneously throughout the whole Summit. If you have been selected, you will receive an email confirming your successful application within two weeks. You then have to confirm or withdraw your participation within one week. After you bindingly confirmed your participation in the Summit, your attendance is obligatory. Since we cover the costs of the organisation of the Summit, your accommodation and catering as well as international travels, you are counted in for the programme. A later declination is only possible in specific circumstances.
Your specific workshop leader gets in touch with you in advance of the Summit (around July/August). Together with the other participants and your workshop team you will communicate regularly in your closed group on the History Campus platform (www.historycampus.org). You will be asked to work on selected materials on your workshop topic, conduct research in your home country or to bring other materials or equipment to Berlin in October.
Participation in the EUSTORY Next Generation Summit 2017 in Berlin is free of charge. If you are selected and confirmed as a participant, the organisers will cover the costs of your accommodation in Berlin and catering from October 6-10, 2017. You will be accommodated in a gender-segregated shared room in a hostel in Berlin together with the other participants. In the hostel and at the location of the Summit, you will be supplied with breakfast, lunch, supper and drinks. If you are living in Germany, the organisers do not cover your travel costs. Please arrange your journey to and from Berlin individually. If you are living in another European country, we will book and cover your travel between your nearest national airport or train station with a direct connection to Berlin and the Summit location. Please arrange your journey to and from this point individually.
The EUSTORY Next Generation Summit 2017 is an event organised for award winners and alumni of the EUSTORY network and participation is reserved for them. The Summit will be framed by a public opening event on October 6 and a closing event presenting the results of the workshops on October 9. Please contact the cultural centre Radialsystem V directly to check for available tickets.
Yes, almost the entire building of Radialsystem V is barrier-free. If you need special assistance during the Summit or on your journey to and from Berlin, please specify your needs in during the online application process.
Yes, if your application was successful, you will have the opportunity to specify your dietary needs during the confirmation process and the Summit team will respect them in the planning of the catering. If this is not possible, we will get in touch and find a solution for you!
All pictures, videos, audios and other material recorded or produced during the Summit can be used by the Körber Foundation and her cooperation partners for documentation and non-commercial purposes after the event.
The organisers will book and cover medical travel insurance for all non-German participants of the Summit. Additionally, we recommend all participants to organise insurances like liability protection, casualty insurance and theft liability waiver for your luggage individually.
